Exam Preparation

*We are a scent free facility. Please refrain from wearing scents, perfume, cologne, aftershave etc.

Your Ontario Health Card (OHIP) is required.

Please remove jewelry and piercings prior to your visit and wear loose fitting clothing that can be easily removed if necessary for your examination. Do not bring valuable objects or documents with you to Owen Sound Medical Imaging.

XRAY

No specific preparation is required for x-rays. Please contact us prior to your exam with us if you are also scheduled for any other examination requiring oral or rectal barium at a local hospital or clinic.

ULTRASOUND  – Arrive 10 minutes prior to your exam

Abdomen 

For  liver, gall bladder, spleen, pancreas, kidneys or aorta:

  • Nothing to eat or drink after midnight until your exam is finished. For afternoon appointments, you may have clear fluids (no dairy). 
  • Drink 2 – 8oz glasses of water.
  • Complete drinking 1 hour before your appointment.
  • Do not go to the washroom as your bladder must be full.

Abdomen and Pelvic Scan

  • Nothing to eat or drink after midnight until your exam is finished. 
  • Drink 4 – 8oz glasses of water.
  • Complete drinking 1 hour before your appointment.
  • Do not go to the washroom as your bladder must be full.

Pelvic / Obstetric Scan

  • Empty your bladder, then drink 4 – 8 oz glasses of water. 
  • Complete drinking 1 hour before your appointment.
  • Do not go to the washroom as your bladder must be full.
Transvaginal Scan

Pelvic ultrasound examinations for female patients sometimes require that scanning occur both through the lower abdomen and also with a probe inserted in the vagina.

If a transvaginal scan is required, it will only be performed with your consent and always with a female staff member in attendance.

All other scans require NO preparation.
